Development of Mobile Phones. What Year Did Download Slots And Casinos Appear

The convenience that comes with mobile gambling is something that we cannot ignore. The fact that you no longer have to commute to your favourite land-based casino is not something we can take lightly.

It even gets better because online casinos can host thousands of games, unlike their physical counterparts, limited by floor area and other costs.

Mobile phones and casino apps are now some of the best companions of a typical gambler. When were they created, and how have they impacted the lives of humans over the years? We linked up with an online gaming expert Conrad Brennan (check profile), who shared the following insights:

When were mobile phones invented?

A US Patent for a wireless telephone issued in Kentucky in 1908 was the foundation of today’s mobile phones. Mobile phones were invented in the 1940s by engineers at AT&T, where they developed mobile phone cells that could be used in base stations.

These phones were two-way radios that allowed taxi drivers and emergency services providers to communicate. However, it was not until 3 April 1973 that Motorola started the mass production of mobile phones. These first models were known as Zero Generation or 0G mobile phones.

The smartphone era

IBM gets credit for developing Simon Personal Communicator, the prototype smartphone, in 1992, and releasing it to the market two years later. Some of the key features that made it different from its predecessors include a touch screen, emailing capability, fax, notes, and calendar, among other apps.

The BlackBerry 5810 smartphone was later introduced and was targeting business professionals. Some of the key features included internet access, a full keyboard, music, advanced security, and a calendar.

It was not until 2007 that Apple Inc. could enter the race and sold 1.4 million iPhones during the first year.

There is an uncountable number of smartphone manufacturers today. Some of the most common operating systems that run these phones are iOS and Android.

The introduction of online casinos

The earliest internet gambling platforms were introduced in the mid-1990s. The Free Trade and Processing Act gave Antigua and Barbuda a good foundation of the online casinos that we have today.

The formation of the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Canada in 1996 was another major development in this industry. The commission could issue licenses to companies that wanted to conduct gambling business. The industry witnessed a lot of growth, and there were about 15 online casinos towards the end of 1996.

The Mobile Casino Phenomenon

It was not until 1995 that Playtech created the first mobile-based casino software. The new software was compatible with most smartphones and could play slots, poker, fixed odds, and bingo, to mention a few. This would lay the foundation for the development of mobile casinos, and many other companies started to pick up.

Microgaming would later join the mobile casino game and created Martin Moshal. Canadians and gamers worldwide would now use this pioneer casino app to download various games in the fast-growing market.

The modern mobile gaming market

Revenue generated from the mobile gaming segment in Canada is expected to hit US$643m in 2021. The competition in this segment is already fierce, as evidenced by the aggressive marketing approaches applied by various companies.

Freebies and promotions are thus available from different gambling platforms to attract new and retain existing customers. The free online slots have been a blessing to those who want to try their luck without risking their money. The ease of access to information is now making it easy for Canadians to make informed decisions in various online casinos.

What the future holds for the online casino industry

More payment options will be embraced

Gone are the days when bank transfers and credit cards were the only modes of payments on various gambling platforms. The modern casinos are now adopting the use of eWallets and digital currencies such as Bitcoin and ethereum. Internet users are thus guaranteed their security and privacy while they use gambling platforms.

Virtual reality and live games

More and more gambling platforms are embracing the concept of live games and VR has been a big contributor. Gamers can now wear VR headsets and experience something similar to what they get in a typical land-based casino.
