What’s new in File Explorer?

Windows 11’s new file explorer should not confuse users much. Microsoft has not made any major changes because the app takes on the same features as in Windows 10, with many users specifically anticipating the arrival of a tabbed navigation system that will soften its use by reducing the number of open windows, but Microsoft does not, at least for now, do not have that respect.

In Windows 11, Redmond focused primarily on the aesthetics of the application, without disturbing the user-friendly and well-known interface under Windows 10, as Microsoft began to use its new icons and radically modified the interface to provide options to make them more accessible.

The purpose of the operation is clear: Windows 11 File Explorer should be easy to use from the computer to the touch interface of a tablet.

Here is a quick overview of the new features waiting for you in this tool that you use every day without paying any attention.

A clean interface

No wonder you are opening File Explorer for the first time in Windows 11. The tool’s interface is the same as in Windows 11, allowing you to navigate to the side grid, tree layout, access bar, search field, and main panel. You need to take a closer look to uncover innovations.

Microsoft has done a great job on the toolbar, which melts like ice in the sun. For simplicity, Microsoft has dropped its ribbon system and rearranged its menus.

Navigation on the provided functions is very intuitive, especially since the most frequently used options are directly accessible from the toolbar: Users use the navigation touch screen.

A new button appears and allows you to create new elements: new directory, shortcut, compressed folder (options available from the right-click context menu in Windows 10), but new documents (Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Options for sorting the contents of a directory or changing the way content is displayed now have a dedicated menu, which greatly simplifies navigation compared to the Windows 10 ribbon system.

Finally, a more selectable and accessible option button allows you to back up the active directory in quick access, manage the selection of elements, and access the properties and options of a directory or file.

Simplified context menu

The File Explorer context menu, accessed by right-clicking, is also created. This will shrink it, leaving a list of options for moving to the top of the menu in the form of icons, which are the most commonly used basic actions such as cut, copy, paste, rename and delete.

However, you can access the old, comprehensive context menu by selecting the Show More option.

Better window management

With Windows 11, Microsoft wanted to integrate a real window manager. The tool is not only dedicated to File Explorer, but can be activated in any open window by hovering the button to increase or decrease the size of the window using the mouse pointer.

You can select one of the four pre-defined companies where you want to send your window (and format). This system allows you to resize and resize multiple windows. This system already exists in earlier versions of Windows, But was much less convenient to use.

While all of these new features are generally very welcome, the lack of a taped navigation system in MacOS (equivalent to file explorer on Mac), for example, is not strong enough to further improve the working environment of Windows 11. Research work.

Fortunately, there are still months left for Microsoft developers to surprise and fill this gap, with the release of Microsoft’s new OS scheduled for October.
