But now researchers have discovered for the first time the vapor around the Canyon Moon – an important discovery. “Where there is water, there may be life as we know it,” said a statement from NASA. It is important to identify liquid water in other celestial bodies in search of planets that can live beyond Earth. In fact, the team led by Lawrence Roth of the Royal University of Technology (KDH) in Stockholm discovered using the Hubble Space Telescope that water is not a liquid, but a gas. This is a “submerged water atmosphere” around the ice moon cone – processed water that transforms directly from its frozen state into a gaseous form and flows over the liquid state.

Roth’s team analyzed old images taken by Canimite’s recently repaired “Hubble” space telescope and found contradictions that could only be solved in one way: by adding another molecule – water. The researchers found that the sun’s rays were sufficient to process ice and generate steam, despite temperatures as low as minus 125 degrees Celsius on the Moon’s day. During the day the thin atmosphere of the canyon is dominated by steam, which freezes again at night. “The water vapor we measure comes from processed ice from hot, icy areas,” Roth explains.
