Jupiter Moon Comet: There is steam in the atmosphere on the big moon

Researchers have discovered water vapor in the atmosphere of the largest moon in the solar system. Comet is orbiting Jupiter – a study that needs to be investigated more closely now.

Stockholm – Water is, as we know it, a basic condition for life – so it is the most frequently sought after chemical compound in space. But in reality you don’t have to look deep into space to find water – as the researchers found, the element is also in the solar system. Research has shown for some time that there is more water on Jupiter’s lunar canyon than on all the oceans on Earth. However, it is thought to be cold at the lunar cone, freezing at the surface and at depths of about 160 km.

But now researchers have discovered for the first time the vapor around the Canyon Moon – an important discovery. “Where there is water, there may be life as we know it,” said a statement from NASA. It is important to identify liquid water in other celestial bodies in search of planets that can live beyond Earth. In fact, the team led by Lawrence Roth of the Royal University of Technology (KDH) in Stockholm discovered using the Hubble Space Telescope that water is not a liquid, but a gas. This is a “submerged water atmosphere” around the ice moon cone – processed water that transforms directly from its frozen state into a gaseous form and flows over the liquid state.

Jupiter’s moon is a vapor found in the atmosphere of the canyon

Roth’s team analyzed old images taken by Canimite’s recently repaired “Hubble” space telescope and found contradictions that could only be solved in one way: by adding another molecule – water. The researchers found that the sun’s rays were sufficient to process ice and generate steam, despite temperatures as low as minus 125 degrees Celsius on the Moon’s day. During the day the thin atmosphere of the canyon is dominated by steam, which freezes again at night. “The water vapor we measure comes from processed ice from hot, icy areas,” Roth explains.

Jupiter’s Steam Comet on the Moon – Isa’s mission is to take a closer look at “Juice”

“According to current knowledge, it is not possible to assume that the water atmosphere is fed by a reservoir beneath the ice surface,” says geologist Joachim Zurr (University of Cologne), the author who was involved in the study as a joint venture. “However, knowledge of the vapor atmosphere is very important, however, it also affects the nature of the ocean to accurately estimate other observations of the moon,” Sour continues. The study was Published in the journal Nature Astronomy.

After the discovery of water vapor in the atmosphere of Jupiter’s moon Canymeet, scientists anticipate the upcoming mission of the European space agency ISA’s “JUICE” (JUpiter ICy moone Explorer) The “Juice” mission is scheduled to begin in 2022 and reach Jupiter in 2029. The focus of the research is on Jupiter Canmeet, Callisto and Io’s three largest moons – Canymeet, the largest moon in our solar system, which is larger than Mercury. According to Isa, Canmead was chosen because the Moon is “a natural laboratory for the analysis of the nature, evolution and possible habitat of ice worlds”. “Our results can provide valuable information to the Juice team to improve the application of space exploration,” Roth says happily. NASA mission “Juno” is currently orbiting Jupiter and staring at the moon Canyme.

Jupiter Moon Comet at the Center for Research: Water vapor atmosphere discovered

The purpose of “Juice” is to investigate the Jupiter system in general with its 79 moons. How did it come about? How did the four great Galilean moons form? Research aims to use Jupiter and its moons to understand how giant gas planets and their moons form and form. These discoveries could be transferred to extraterrestrial systems such as Jupiter and help search for life in the universe. (Thanja Banner)
