Donkey Kong may not be Nintendo’s best seller, but in this series, Nintendo “invented” the operating system then, and it’s time for more games. Donkey has not yet got its own game for the Nintendo Switch, there was only one new version with a tropical freeze – the original 6 year old.
Donkey Kong celebrates its 40th anniversary
Hero will celebrate its 40th anniversary in July 2021, and many expect Nintendo to unveil what is planned for 2021 Direct. Or whether something is planned. But there will be no new switch title in the first half of 2021, it should be clear.

It celebrates the 25th anniversary of Pokemon and has been promoting it for weeks. Super Mario’s 35th anniversary was celebrated big last year, and there are some signs of a 35th anniversary in Zelda. Donking only seems to be a little forgotten.
One might assume that Nintendo has not yet shown the complete lineup for 2021 and will see new games soon in the second half of the year. I hope only Donkey Kong will back down as a lot has been planned. But now I fear the big anniversary will become smaller.
Donkey Kong is not a best seller
One possible reason is the series’ lack of success. The new version of Mario Kart 8 has already sold over 30 million times and even an older 2D Mario has more than 10 million units, while Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is within 3 million units. That’s not even enough for one of the top 20 best-selling Nintendo Switch games.
Tonki Kong was ranked in the top 15 on Wei and 11th on Wei Yu 11, selling 2 million units, making Wei Yu a failure. But you could still say that Donkey Kong has a lot of fans, but not as profitable for Nintendo as Zelda or Super Mario.
So you want to create a Mario Tennis or Mario Golf because these games sell even better. But I have not given up hope, I continue to believe that Nintendo is planning a completely new and a better Donkey Kong country by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
There may be a classic HD version like Donkey Kong Country Returns. The 40th anniversary series really deserves it.
