With this new test you can officially download videos

Under the trial plan reserved for YouTube Premium, the online video service now offers the opportunity to download videos legally and officially.

Google has decided to upgrade YouTube. In recent months, the company has introduced several tests: Enable Picture in picture On the iPhone, translate comments or new navigation. The latest is probably the most interesting so far.

You can access YouTube videos offline on your computer

Uploading videos to YouTube has been in high demand since the beginning of the service. This will allow you to create fun montages, GIFs or access videos, even without an internet connection. There are many services that download YouTube videos today, thus violating the Terms of Use of the Site. Google has decided to tackle it by providing a fully official algorithm.

We see the function on the page Test features of YouTube. Note that these tests are reserved for YouTube Premium subscribers.

Like mobile, this functionality allows you to watch and download YouTube videos in a restricted environment without having to connect to the Internet. We may be less accustomed to the computer, but this option also goes through an application called the PWA web application. By clicking the “Download” button below the video, YouTube offers to install the suspicious application.

PWA applications have their own local storage system on the system. YouTube will use it to download videos.

There is a new “Downloads” section to view all videos downloaded upstream. Those who use this functionality on mobile will not be distracted.

Although we do not see many options, there are parameters of the process. We can still choose the video quality for downloads and the ability to delete all video downloads with a single click.

If you look at the tests page, this test runs until October 19th. After this date, we imagine that Google will decide whether or not to enable this functionality.
