The M1 Pro and M1 Max hit the MacBook Pro a few months ago with high quality performance and incomparable power efficiency. If rumors of a possible SoC M2 had surfaced in recent days, it would have been too early for Apple to deliver an unexpected new chip on the side of its iPhone SE and iPad Air: M1 Ultra.
SoC of all levels
Designed for pro users and any professional amateurs who require high computing power for 3D rendering, video editing or photo post production, this M1 Ultra is actually made up of two M1 Max chips, dubbed Ultrafusion by Apple. For more technical information on M1 Max chips, we advise you to read our exclusive article:
At the moment the SoC is capable of integrating twice as many CPU cores and impressive 64 GPU cores as the M1 Max. It is backed by a maximum of 128GB of integrated memory and the manufacturer claims 8 times more performance than the classic M1. The M1 Ultra can now be found on all new Mac studios, provided by the manufacturer during the keynote address. While waiting for the full test of the SoC in our lab, we can only hope for the ultra-high performance with more controlled consumption.
