Puzzles abound now, and new topics are becoming increasingly difficult to stand apart from the competition. Where Cards Fall achieves this through its basic game mechanics. In the following, we would like to take a closer look at whether Kamble is really unusual enough to leave a lasting impression. But first a word or two about the story should be lost: the real plot of where the cards fall is not so clear at first. The game comes with or without introductory conversations. On the contrary, it is not really “spoken” here, and the characters speak nonsense during conversations. In the end, your unnamed protagonist deals with the usual coming-of-age story that looks back on all sides of school, university and destiny and the high points in between. However, it will take some time to understand this. In the end, the plot does not tear down trees and is very predictable. However, it’s a good system for the main part of the game – i.e. the card dynamics.

Because, among the very brief reviews about the life of the unnamed, you will end up with one of 52 levels. In it you should always achieve an exit that is beyond your normal range. So as you progress, you have to use real game mechanics and use the cards that give it its name to achieve the status. You have one or more game cards at your disposal in each area that is manageable and clearly defined, which are just below the ground. By selecting individual cards, you can move them back and forth, spread them out on the floor, and activate them with the push of a button. What happens next depends on the symbol on the card; Some then rise to form a block, while others build a kind of house with a pointed roof, or you build tall towers that are particularly tall. You can now use these constructions to build bridges or reach higher ground. A certain level of spatial and in-depth understanding can be very helpful because you should always evaluate where you place your cards and how far you will spread them, especially in the later stages. The more cards are distributed, the larger areas or higher constructions will eventually turn out to be. Later in the game, there are additional obstacles such as drafting your cards in the wrong place or throwing them on platforms that rise and fall depending on their weight.
Proper evaluation ensures that the various maps and newly introduced additional components increase the level of difficulty evenly and are always relevant. At the end of the game you can reach after a good 10 to 12 hours, the puzzles become more and more tricky and require a lot from your gray. After all, no conditions are in any way unreasonable; The puzzles are all well thought out and once you come up with the solution, there will always be aha effect. If you do not receive anything further, you can always specify the next step through the notification system. However, this system is not as effective as you might think, especially in the latter stages. The levels of the next cards will be shown to you, but the game ignores the current status of your character – which then plays a major role. What a shame, there are only four different card designs in the end, which will eventually do different harm towards the back.
Two cards are already placed on the left, but how to bridge the gap?

Even if you can’t die where the cards fall, and the jump columns are limited to jumping from one card structure to the next, control should not be underestimated in games like this. The puzzle here is that he is well and happy to be sick in the most important place; I.e. when using cards. As the control with the analog sticks and buttons of the Nintendo Switch takes a lot to practice at first, you can learn from the title that it was originally created for the Apple Arcade and the iPad. Switching back and forth between layers of cards can become a very bad thing, especially if some inputs are sometimes not recognized properly or handled too quickly in turn. In addition, sometimes you will be without overview, especially when multiple map structures are set up at once. Although the game allows you to slightly rotate and tilt the display using the gyroscope control, it worked poorly in my case and inexplicably has no associated functionality using the analog stick or buttons.
Graphically, Grads Fall comes with a beautiful look and levels that pay more attention to detail, but over time the theme comes back again and again. Far from the murmurs of the characters, due to the fact that there is no proper voice output, there is no corresponding German dubbing. However, not all texts have been translated into German. The soundtrack is very quiet and compliant, true to the actual gameplay, but not really noticed in one or the other direction.
