The Nailloux en transition is offering a free botanical walk as part of the “City Nature Challenge” event in cities around the world from April 29 to May 2. This event is taking place for the first time in France. Launched a few years ago by the scientific staff of the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, it aims to identify plants and animals in urban areas through the use of “iNaturalist” smartphones.
At Nailloux, the highlight of the event will be Saturday, April 30 from 2pm to 4pm. As a group, the opportunity to learn more about native flora and fauna. The commented walk, along with, is free and open to all, from Saint-Martin’s Church following the green belt of Martigat to Lake Thessalonica. During this trip, participants will learn to use the iNaturalist site to share their observations with the scientific community. “The goal of this event is to use a lot of information about urban biodiversity for scientific purposes. It’s a real challenge, a friendly competition with other cities around the world to see who collects the most data. Association member Nathalie adds.
