There is no doubt that Nintendo will be riding high this year when we are all staying at home. From the Animal Crossing event to the recent remote control real life Mario Kart, Nintendo’s nostalgic fun is something that a lot of people are looking for now. On the other hand, the latest limited edition device of the gaming agent, the Games & Tracking: Super Mario Bros., Someone is not really something to shout about.
Following the success of the mini classic version NES and SNES consoles in 2016 and 2017, most fans are looking forward to the re-release of the original Game Boy. Instead, Nintendo took us back to the early 1980s and unveiled an updated version of its Game & Watch console, loaded with the original Super Mario Brothers and its sequel. Video games don’t get any older than this: there’s a T-pad and a two-button layout, and even the kitschy gold and red color scheme hasn’t changed.
There is something undeniable about the shameless monument of gaming past. Of course, there are only two games available (three if you count the ball, we do not, to be honest) and the exclusive watch feature (hence the word ‘watch’ in its name) is unnecessary for anyone with a phone. But, for 5,478 (US $ 51), from 2020 you will get a simple, small, fun distraction. No one should have thought it was what they wanted, but somehow, it was what we needed.
Plus, the look of the ’80s is back in fashion, isn’t it?
