The 19Th Session of the Committee to Review the Implementation of the United Nations Conference Against Desertification (CRIC-19) Will be held online from Monday 15th March to Friday 19th March 2021.

CRIC-19 will have five daily online meetings lasting two hours from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm CET (11:30 am to 1:30 pm GMT / UTC). These meetings will be held in six United Nations languages ​​(English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French and Russian).

The questions on the agenda are as follows:

  • Early drought management under drought initiative;
  • Land rights and gender;
  • Restoration of 450 million hectares of land already done under the Convention;
  • Establishing a Land Degradation Neutral Fund;
  • Interim Report of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Drought Effective Policies and Enforcement Measures.

This session is an interim work session to review the progress made by countries in implementing the conference (other conferences treat these meetings as sessions of their affiliates and provide details on the activities of the UNCCD. These are frequently asked questions).

CRIC-19 will be an opportunity to review the effective implementation of the conference at the national, sub-regional and regional levels. In February 2021, state parties from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the North Mediterranean and Central Europe and the East began to hold preparatory meetings for CRIC-19, forming links to the conference’s regional enforcement. .
