Malware detected by Red Canary experts in Makos. The Silver Sparrow is harmless and only for Apple computers. The manufacturer, for its part, has already taken steps to control its spread.

Two versions of this software have been invented, the first designed for the Mac with Intel processors, and the second, updated to support the Apple M1 chip – which is used in the newer ones. Named the Silver Sparrow, The Malware MacOS installer installs JavaScript through the API. Two files have been identified: “update.pkg” and “updateater.pkg”, once in place, Silver Sparrow interacts with an Amazon server following instructions.
For now, the Silver Sparrow is harmless and can remove the installation itself without leaving traces as it has not received any instructions. This leaves Red Canary experts at least wary of the purpose of this malware, calling it “mysterious” and treating it as evidence for the notion.
An Apple spokesman said AppleInsider The company has already revoked the certificates used to sign malware installation packages. This withdrawal has the effect of preventing new installations and reducing its spread.
