Selby: Mars rover “diligently” photographed itself on the red planet – it’s not alone.

WASHINGTON – On Wednesday (local time) NASA released a selfie with the “ingenuity” mini-helicopter “Perseverance” of the Mars rover. The rover took a photo with 62 unique images of its robot arm. Mixed pictures show the “diligence” rover and the small “ingenuity” helicopter on the front. It is about four meters away from the vehicle and is scheduled to launch its first flight to Mars in the coming days.

Mars: NASA’s ingenuity on the red planet

The 1.8-kilogram light helicopter “ingenuity” (German: முதல் முதல்) is about to rise to an altitude of about three meters on its first test flight, orbit for thirty seconds and land on the surface of Mars again. NASA will thus succeed in the first flight of a spacecraft to another planet. The “ingenuity” of lithium-ion batteries could still try several flights a month.

Extreme conditions: Up to -90 degrees Celsius on Mars

Helicopter must cross extreme conditions: Mars will be cold at night at minus 90 degrees Celsius. In addition, the planet’s gravitational pull is low and the atmosphere is very thin. The mini-helicopter’s “ingenuity” took 203 flying days and 472 million kilometers into Mars’ “perseverance”. Until the end of February when the helicopter touches a dangerous maneuver on the dry Mars lake known as the “Jesero Gorge”. The Mars Rover is expected to explore the lake, which is about 45 kilometers in diameter, over the next two years. The rover tested its laser for the first time in March. (jsch / dpa)
