Jelly Brake Deluxe (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC)
Jump’ran, Bitrockers, adventure
Three years ago, Bitrockers Games developers released the standard version of their platform adventure ‘Jelly Break’. The new version now released not only has the suffix ‘deluxe’, but also comes with a slightly expanded purpose – practically identical to all platforms of the current generation consoles. Conversely, considering the tried and tested game will not change anything.
Sticky co-op fun
The background story of the colorful multiplayer hopper is quickly handled: you slip alone or with a fellow player – in two jelly gel and Lee characters. Together you must save your home planet from the evil Evil Blob, who is spreading around the house of the two heroes with his Evil Corporation. So far, very simple. But the story is a little more subtle than the real attraction of the game. Most importantly, ‘Jelly Break Deluxe’ is the mechanics of wanting to convince in a cooperative way. After all, the main focus of the game is precisely on it. And it often works well.
In co-op mode, you inevitably rely on well-rehearsed collaboration. Although you can do all the work yourself, the operating system in multiplayer mode is a bit challenging: Gel and Lee combine in one. One player controls the movements, while the other uses an analog stick to shoot at approaching enemies. By pressing a button with two players at once, you can change the characters or split into two jellies.
Temporary separation is necessary to achieve the levels successfully. Some environmental interactions can only be carried out by gel or lee. So a permanent change is inevitable. It can be a little tricky at times, especially in sensational passages – it will definitely cause a laugh or two if it fails. An boss fight is often waiting for you at the end. While these are not particularly challenging, this fact is not really considered a confusing evil. As a rule, continuous fire and moderate good avoidance is sufficient to master the final conflicts.
Is the deluxe upgrade worth it?
‘Jelly Break Deluxe’ should not be a platform expression for anyone. The controls are often simple, the background story is a decorative accessory. If you travel alone, the jelly adventure will soon turn into a snoring hopforgy. In pairs, on the other hand, some type of fans – or at least those who still don’t know the original – will definitely have fun with ‘Jelly Break Deluxe’. Entertainment levels offer fun entertainment at least in the meantime, in a highly successful co-op.
