Brave is optimized for the Mac M1
If you have a new Mac with the M1 chip (Mac Mini, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air) and are looking for a non-Apple, non-Google, non-Mozilla browser, the good news is that Brave has updated their browser. Own Apple is a privacy hub with silicon support. Note that the Microsoft Edge team is still testing M1 support on its Canary Beta release channel.
If you forget, Brave is a Chromium-based browser that naturally blocks ads and trackers, while at the same time enabling its own token system for paying creators – sometimes controversial. It recently created an integrated newsreader and claims 7 million active daily users. It’s 6 times faster than its competitors and is compatible with extensions from the Chrome Store.
As we’ve seen with other chromium-based browsers, switching to a version designed for ARM processors on the new Mac increases performance and extends battery life. This version also fixes video playback on IMDB and HBO Max, even if you do not have an Apple machine with new chips.
For anyone running the x64 version on the new Mac M1, it is recommended to replace it with the Arm 64 version to enjoy performance gains. For settings> bold, look for “arm64” instead of “x86_64”.
