How to download a large file from the command line from Google Drive?

If you need to download files from Google Drive at the command line via Curl or Wget, chances are it will fail.

Why? Well, the warning that Google sends to certain files seems to block these tools.

So how do you do that?

Under the free license there is a small tool called Gdown, which allows you to deal with the problem. So, thank you Jitown You can download large files from Google Drive at the command line.

Isn’t life beautiful?

To install GDown, open a terminal and enter the following command:

pip install gdown

Next, enter the gdown command following the URL of the Google Drive file:

gdown https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1l_5RK28JRL19wpT22B-DY9We3TVXnnQQ

There you go!

This tool supports custom URLs, not Google Drive URLs, just like any Wget.

An ambiguous parameter allows you to retrieve entire directories from Google Drive or PowerPoint files such as:

gdown --fuzzy "https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/15umvZKlsJ3094HNg5S4vJsIhxcFlyTeK/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=117512221203072002113&rtpof=true&sd=true"

Keep in mind that Gdown Lip can also be imported into your Python scripts, which can be very easy.

Enjoy!
