Calypso Media is stepping down as a publisher

Fifteen years ago, with the kick-off in 2007, the last part of the football manager series began. After Calypso Media acquired the rights to the series two years ago, successor Kick-Off 2022 is set to be released this year after a very long hiatus. The project was successfully launched in the summer of 2020 with the 2Kickstarter campaign. On June 16, it was announced that Calypso Media would leave the project as a publisher and send the license for trademark rights to Maintenance 2.

Perspectives from both sides on the situation

According to those in charge, there must have been growth and differences between Worms Publisher Calypso Media and Developer Studio 2 Maintenance from MacDerburg during the project. Simon Helwick, managing director of Calypso Media, commented on the case and said that after careful consideration of the whole, it was decided to focus on other projects. He declared:

“We know that many supporters of the Kickstarter campaign and kick-off fans have been deceived into not being able to deliver the beta version at the scheduled time, and we’re very sorry for this. “

As a small compensation to Kickstarter supporters, the free download key for Gig 3, the most successful part of the series since 2000, will be available on sales site GOG.com in the coming days. In collaboration with Calypso and GOG, the Gig 3 is said to be powered by current PCs, explains Simon Helwick. Stephen Weil, Managing Director of 2 Maintenance, also commented on the upcoming beta version:

“We respect Calypso’s decision. As developers, it is now very easy to respond to the community’s wishes and provide the desirable inspiration for 2022 to all fans. Even if it takes a while to build. “
