Samsung’s first micro-LED TV will be available until June 15, 2021 at the Phoenix des Ternes in Paris. Everyone has the opportunity to notice the contribution of this technology, but also some minor flaws of the youth.
Samsung’s first micro-LED TV is finally available in France, and for this occasion, Samsung unveiled its 110-inch model not far from the Arc de Triomphe at the 17th Aeronautical in Paris. This huge 2.8m diagonal TV sits at the entrance of the store next to the very coral Samsung 8K QE75QN900A, which is not blinding.
The Samsung Micro-LED shows an ultra HD definition of 3840 x 2160 px, or 8.29 million pixels, so it can display 24.88 million micro LEDs. As the sub-pixel photo shows, each block of three sub-pixels is farther away from the next place. Unlike the sub-pixels of the Old panels which have a very specific geometric shape, the simple rectangular micro LED of the micro-LED panel is used. As The wall luxury we saw last year at the Proto Gallery, They are protected by an adhesive that reduces glare and dissipates heat evenly.
Weighing in at 87kg, this screen is installed after a pre-arrival by Samsung, which ensures that it fits into the room without interruption and supports wall load. Note that unlike the The Wall Luxury offered in the form of modules assembled on site, this 110-inch Samsung Micro-LED is offered in its chassis and the modules are factory fitted.
As for the connection, there is a connection box, which allows you to migrate far away from the TV. This box is much smaller than the one provided with Samsung Cool TVs because it has no electricity. The latter – greed (950 W) – separate. The box has six HDMI 2.1 inputs, the first four of which can be used simultaneously on a screen distributed across the four corners of the panel – the equivalent of four 55-inch TVs. It has an optical digital audio output, two USB ports and an Ethernet port. Note that it does not embed a TNT, cable or satellite tuner. So it is necessary to go through a box or application to watch TV.
The micro-LED TV is very well finished and has an aluminum frame. Its thickness is only 2.5 cm larger than the entire layer. Even with this small size, it allows you to embed 100 W 6.2.2 audio system, which is unfortunately not as enjoyable as the full model. To make full use of it, a dedicated audio system will be added.
First measurements
Theoretically, micro-LED technology should combine the best of LCD and OLED, i.e. high brightness and high lifetime to maintain infinite variation and excellent response.
In cinema mode, the EOTF curve is highly respected. Can still improve the management of very deep blacks – a problem that was present in the first Old TVs, but the TV avoids Clipping Maximum curve smoothing of the capabilities of the TV In terms of peak brightness, we measured it as 1260 cd / m². This is better than OLED TVs, which typically have 750 cd / m², although the best ones (like the Panasonic TX-65HZ2000) have higher than 950 cd / m², but a place below the best LCD TV. The Samsung Neo Cult QE65QN95A, We tested, for example reached a peak brightness of 1570 cd / m², and some models exceeded 2000 cd / m² (Samsung QE75Q900R). So we were a little disappointed.
Samsung assures us that this is a pre-production model and that the maximum brightness for production models should reach 2000 cd / m². Even with such a score, this peak of brightness seems to be a little light for the micro-LED TV set, whose technology should theoretically exceed 100,000 cd / m². However, this is the first model from Samsung that, in comparison, the first Old TVs did not exceed 400 cd / m. So Samsung has a little room in the future to do better.
In Cinema HDR mode, we measured the Delta E-3.9. The colors may not be considered perfect, but overall they are reasonable. Here again, this is a series pre-model and the first micro-LED TV set designed for the general public.
This is no surprise in terms of color coverage as the inaugural TV Reg.2020 covers 68% of the color space and DCI-P3 92% of the color space. So it’s roughly the same as older TVs, but better than the best LCDs in place (76% of Wreck 2020 for the amazing DCL65C815).
As with the Old TV, the difference is infinite as each pixel can be turned off individually. So no Blooming LCD TVs can be viewed using LED or Mini LED backlighting.
In addition to the correct colorization in this pre-series model, the other negative point may be the visible joints between the different micro-LED panels. Fortunately, they disappear to the front with a retreat of more than 2 meters.
Technology of the future
The Samsung Micro-LED 110 MS1A2021 4K is available in France for $ 150,000 and includes a home installation and a central stand for those who want to place a 90kg TV cabinet. This model is available in the 99-inch (251 cm) version for around Rs. 130,000. Micro-LED technology is very promising and we can’t wait until the products become more democratic.
