UIDAI or Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows Aadhaar holders to download a digital copy of their identity card online. Digital Aadhaar is “valid as Aadhaar letter received by post”, according to UIDAI, Aadhaar operates a biometric ID program and provides related services online. The digital Aadhaar card can be downloaded from the UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in) or using the mobile application mAadhaar. How to download a digital copy of your Aadhaar card
Here is a step-by-step process to download the digital version of the Aadhaar ID card:
The user should visit the Aadhaar website, uidai.gov.in and select the “Download Aadhaar” option under the “Get Aadhaar” section.
After this step, the user has to select any of the three options to proceed: Aadhaar Number (UID), Registration ID (EID) or Virtual ID (VID). This feature of UIDAI allows the user to select a masked copy of the Aadhaar card. In the mask version, the entire UID – which is 12 digits – is not visible.
After filling in the required details the user has to click on the “Send OTP” button and enter the OTP or one-time passcode (received on Aadhaar-registered mobile) in the space provided to proceed.
After this, the user should select the “Verify and Download” option.

Upon successful completion of the process, a digital copy of the Aadhaar card will be downloaded to the device in use. The downloaded Aadhaar file is in pdf format and is password-protected, meaning the user has to enter the password to access it.
The UIDAI website states that the password is a combination of the first four letters of the username with uppercase letters, followed by the user’s year of birth in YYYY format.
A similar process can be used to download the Aadhaar card using the MAadhaar app.
