Zelda Breath of the Wild: all details on DLC “Master Trials” pack

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most complete Nintendo game ever, with a massive open-air adventure offering more than a thousand collectibles, tons of quests, outfits, armors, mini-games and secrets. And if that two hundred hours of gameplay experience wasn’t enough, we’re gonna get even more with two upcoming DLC this summer and during holidays. Today, Nintendo gave first details on the DLC 2 “The Master Trials” pack.

Launching this summer, the DLC pack “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The Master Trials” is the next part of content coming from the Expansion Pass, available on Wii U and Switch for $19.99. This second pack will offer new pieces of equipment, new modes, a new challenge, an upgrade for the map and a rather interesting travel item. Here are the details, with screenshots.

Trial of the Sword

Hidden deep within the Great Hyrule Forest, the pedestal holding the Master Sword is awaiting you. By replacing the legendary blade in it, you’ll get challenged with the Trial of the Sword. Previously known as “Cave of Trials Challenge”, this special quest will make you confront waves of enemies in a total of 45 rooms. As Link clears all of the rooms, the true power of the Master Sword will awaken and always be in its glowing powered-up state.

Hard Mode

The main quest and overall world of Hyrule aren’t much of a challenge anymore? Well, you’re in for a treat with the new Hard Mode. Once activated, the “ranks” of enemies in the game are increased (i.e. Red Bokoblins change to Blue) and they’ll also slowly recover health in battle, forcing you to defeat them as fast as possible. They will also more easily spot Link as he approaches them. In addition, floating planks with enemies and treasures will be scattered around Hyrule.

Hero’s Path Mode

The vastness of Hyrule is clearly one of the best features of the game, giving you the surprise of new hidden spots even after tens of hours exploring the map. To help with tracking progress, comes the new Hero’s Path Mode. This feature added to your Sheikah Slate will document every step taken for the last 200 hours, and mark your path in green on the map. And don’t worry, it’s retroactive, you’ll be able to see where you’ve traveled even before the DLC is implemented.

Travel Medallion

Travelling Hyrule has become easy for the ones who’ve unlocked all 120 Shrines. But even if you can fast travel to any of those locations, there might be a spot in the world that you want to come back to that isn’t easily accessible. The Travel Medallion will answer your need. Hidden in a chest somewhere in Hyrule, this medallion has the power to create one (and only one) temporary new travel point on the map.

New costumes and masks

The DLC “Master Trials” comes packed with eight new pieces of equipment inspired by previous characters and fan-favorite games in the series. These won’t be given so easily, you’ll have to find them in Hyrule, but once obtained, be prepared to look exactly like Midna (Twilight Princess), Tingle or the Phantom (Phantom Hourglass). Oh and will you have the courage to put on the terrifying Majora’s Mask?

Oh and let’s not forget the Korok Mask, that comes with a special power: when equipped, the mask will shake when a Korok is hidden somewhere nearby. Nintendo hasn’t said anything about a possible power given by wearing Majora’s Mask or Midna’s Helmet. Guess we’ll find that out directly by trying it ourselves.
