Remember the time when we covered all the new features of the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch? Well, apparently Nintendo still has some surprises for us when we discover the game on April 28th. And they’ve just unveiled one of them: a third “Ultra Turbo” boost level for our vehicles.
Up until now, Mario Kart 8 was known to have “only” a two-level boost, called Super Turbo. For those who haven’t tried it yet, it occurs when you start drifting with your kart/moto/quad and you keep drifting long enough to see yellow sparks coming out of your wheels. Now in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Switch, if you’re able to sustain this drift long enough you’ll see purple sparks after the yellow ones. That’s the Ultra Turbo boost.
Nintendo shared a video to show how that’s done. In this short footage, they measure how much time of drift it takes to trigger each level of boost: Simple Turbo = 0.621 sec; Super Turbo = 1.674 sec; Ultra Turbo = 2.633 sec.
