The long-awaited puzzle adventure game RIME is set to release on PS4, Xbox One and PC this 26 May. It will release as a physical and digital copy on Nintendo Switch a few weeks after during summer, but there’s a twist. Development studio Tequila Works is announcing a price of $29.99 / £29.99 on the three systems, and the Switch version is priced $39.99 / £39.99. What the… ???
Eurogamer asked publisher Grey Box why the Switch version is listed at higher price but the answer was… foggy: “We set prices for our products based on the costs of development and publishing for each specific platform“. They also stated that the Switch has the “added freedom to take the adventure anywhere using the Switch’s portable functionality“. Sure but that doesn’t explain this not-so-subtle lust for money. Grey Box, Tequila Works and Tantalus (helping on the port for the Switch) are “investigating the use of Switch-specific features, but we cannot confirm anything at the moment“. Let’s hope that something will indeed be confirmed.
RiME is a single-player puzzle adventure game about discovery, experienced through the eyes of a young boy who awakens on a mysterious island after shipwrecking off its coast. Players must navigate the island’s secrets by making use of light, sound, perspective and even time. Inspired by the rugged, sunbaked terrain of the Mediterranean coast, RiME paints its breathtaking world with a fusion of vibrant colours and moving musical undertones to set the stage for the deeply personal journey that awaits within.
