One of the great thing with the Nintendo Switch is that you can bring it with you everywhere. But there’s one thing that the hybrid console is lacking: video streaming applications. You’ve just finished a game session and want to chill watching an episode of Rick and Morty on Netflix. But the Switch can’t do that… at least for now.
In an interview for the Washington Post, Reggie Fils-Aime – Chief Operating Officer at Nintendo America – confirmed to gamers that video streaming applications like Netflix, Amazon Video and Hulu will eventually arrive on the Nintendo Switch. but it’s clearly not something they focus on right now.
Reggie said that adding applications is not a priority. The games are what’s important right now. Those are how they will differentiate themselves from other platforms available on the market. But maybe Nintendo just doesn’t want to put their effort on partnerships that won’t bring them gamers.
“We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.”
