You can download videos from the internet soon

YouTube is currently testing a new feature. It allows you to download videos from a web browser without having to go through another application. For now, special media reports say that the trial of this new service is only accessible to premium subscribers of the streaming video site 01 Net, This Thursday.

The goal of the new feature is to give users the ability to download videos locally so they can watch them offline later. The full test of this service must be completed by October 19th. For now, YouTube does not specify whether this feature will be permanently integrated into the platform for all users after this date.

Videos can only be played on the YouTube website

Premium subscribers on the platform will find a simple “Download” button, which will be displayed under a video. This functionality is also integrated in YouTube’s three-point menu. However, downloaded videos can only be played from the site’s web interface. It will be loaded from the browser cache when the internet connection is disconnected.

Downloaded videos cannot be imported into the media player or video editing software. Finally, to benefit from this feature, users must be equipped with a computer with the latest version of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Opera. The new tool is already available on Android and iOS mobile processors.
