Xiaomi 12 Test: Small format, short battery life

Xiaomi 12 Test: Small format, short battery life

Our Xiaomi 12 is fitted with less than its Pro number. If it has a core 50 megapixel volume, the integrated sensor is different since it is Sony IMX766 (IMX707 on Xiaomi 12 Pro). Ultra wide angle, definition point of 50 megapixels. Here, Xiaomi is very classic with a 13 megapixel sensor. Finally, note the lack of a telephoto lens, which has a 5-megapixel macro module instead.

Main volume: 50 megapixels, f / 1.8, eq. 24 mm

Thanks to the snapshot technique taken at 12.5 megapixels Pixel binding And full-frame one, no difference. On the other hand, in low light, 50 megapixel mode is less relevant. Smoothness is more visible on our platform. The 12.5 megapixel photo offers high sharpness and contrast. Hence the desirable result.

Facing the Google Pixel 6 Pro, the best photophone in our comparison, the Xiaomi 12 is no match. However, this is not bad at all because it offers good exposure, a certain amount of detail and slightly more variation than the Xiaomi 12 Pro model. However, we regret the color scale and perimeter smoothing that is a little bland.

Surprisingly, at night it is difficult to accurately measure up to the Pixel 6 Pro. Xiaomi 12 benefits from good color measurement and optimal exposure. Although the software processing is very strong it softens the display and erases the details. Digital noise occurs in dark areas, increasing the smartphone’s high sensitivity (2853 ISO).

Ultra wide-angle volume: 13 megapixels, f / 2.4, eq. 16 mm

If the Pixel 6 Pro had a major blur effect, it would apply to the Xiaomi 12 as well – but in a much more moderate way. The image is a bit dull, affected by discoloration in some places, but the sharpness is nice.

At night, the film can be very confusing. Xiaomi 12 has high sensitivity (ISO 5195), including digital noise and photo capture. No details, but the expression is very accurate.

Front module, portrait and video mode

The Xiaomi 12 front is offered similarly to the 12 Pro. The same 32 megapixel sensor offers good selfie quality with high quality details.

The portrait mode, whether pre-set or wide-angle, is successful with almost the exact outline of the object in each test. In this mode the adjustable background is blurred and there is a “full body” option to capture the whole thing. Without the 2x telephoto lens, you have to move closer to take the shot at shoulder level.

In video, Xiaomi 12 is capable of shooting up to 8K at 24 fps and up to 4K at 60 fps. The smartphone is HDR10 + compatible. On the front, video capabilities are limited to 60 fps to 1080p.
