Windows 7 users can download the latest Patch Tuesday update

Cut corners: Patch Tuesday was a little surprising. Microsoft has only recently been offering love for Windows 11 and Windows 10. Windows 7 users received the latest updates this week. There is also a way to get them without paying an expensive Microsoft subscription.

Although Microsoft will complete security updates for Windows 7 by 2020, the nearly 13-year-old operating system still runs on millions of PCs. Subscribing to Extended Security Updates (ESU) will allow Microsoft to continue receiving security updates for one more year.

These plans cost $ 100 per machine for Windows 7 Enterprise users and $ 200 for Pro users, which can still be added to businesses running multiple systems on Windows 7.

However, in 2019, users of My Digital Life forums created an archive of files that would allow them to receive updates for free, bypassing ESU verification. Users confirmed this week that Exploit works on the latest links.

In addition to security improvements, updates to KB5012626 and KB5012649 include fixes for Windows Media Center, some password change situations, and issues with DNS hostname.

Microsoft will stop releasing Windows 7 updates for the ESU program after January 2023, although third-party developers may release their own links.
