Microsoft Windows 11 officially arrives on Tuesday, October 5th. This long awaited Windows 10 update will be available for free on some existing systems. Therefore, most Windows users will want to know how to officially download Windows 11.

Below I have described everything you need to know about officially downloading Windows 11.

How to officially download Windows 11?

Yes, Windows 11 is finally here (even a day before its official release date), but It is not immediately available to all users. Microsoft will release updates in phases. Depending on your device, you may have to wait weeks or months to receive an update.

Usually, updates are available first for newer devices and later for older models. Earlier, the company had acknowledged that it plans to offer free updates to all eligible devices by mid-2022.

When updating Windows 10 to Windows 11, you do not have to do much. All you have to do is wait for your turn. When the update is ready for your device, you will receive a notification from the Windows Update software. If you do not receive the notification, you can verify it manually by opening the Windows Update and selecting “Check for Updates”. Once you get the update, all you have to do is click download and once the download is complete you can start enjoying Windows 11.

If you do not receive the update notification and the update is not available in the Windows Update section (mid-2022), it means that your device is ineligible. You can still get Windows 11, but you will need to download it manually.

Windows 11 may take a while to download, so be prepared for some popcorn to wait. Back up all your most valuable files to an external hard drive or back them up CloudIf something does not work in the Windows 11 update.

Does your PC meet the requirements for Windows 11?

Before you start downloading Windows 11, there are a few things you need to make sure of. It is:

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of Windows 10 (version 20H1 or later)
  2. Make sure your PC is connected to the internet and you have a stable internet connection
  3. Another important thing is to make sure your device is compatible with Windows 11 hardware requirements.

Microsoft Has published Minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11. It is a 1 GHz processor with 2 or more cores, 64 GB storage space, one GPU compatible with DirectX 12, one DBM version 2.0, 64 bit compatible, secure boot compatible system firmware, 4 GB RAM, 720p Or more display, internet connection and UEFI.

If you are not a technician and can not check the glass, there is an easy way to do it. In general, PC compatible with Windows 11 for less than 4 years. To make things even easier, Microsoft is offering an app “PC health test“. This processor will scan your computer and tell you if your computer is compatible with Windows 11 or not.

Before upgrading, I recommend backing up your data. Windows 11 will not destroy them – unless you use the Media Creation tool – but if you want to install Windows 10 clean, it’s a good idea to back up everything.
