Windows 11 greatly complicates the selection of the default browser

Windows 11 offers many new features For better or worse. Overall I have to say we enjoyed using it for months. The new interface is clean, streamlined, and has a general feel to it This version of Windows is as practical and easy to use as the Mac MacOS operating system.

If we look a little more, we can easily see the flaws in it. One of them is precisely the choice of default applications – especially for web browsers. Everything seems to be designed now Support Microsoft’s new Edge browser in Chromium Sauce Harm to the match. But this method is more subtle than in the past (and more arguably more annoying).

Changing the default browser in Windows 11 is more complicated than in Windows 10

Microsoft, you will see, can actually actually hide behind the granular approach, which allows users to choose exactly which browser to open depending on the case. Although 99% of users do not see its actual use. Instead of keeping it simple, instead of choosing which browser to choose by default, Windows 11 has actually decided to complicate the process by giving you a lot of choices.

When you open a link for the first time, a popup like Windows 10 will appear allowing you to select your default browser. You should check the “Use this application every time” box, because if necessary, you’re wasting half an hour switching to ten or more different file associations in multiple locations.

Actually now, when we go Settings> Default Applications We see all the applications installed on your computer, including web browsers. If you click on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or even better Microsoft Edge, you will soon understand why choosing another default browser is difficult.

In fact, from now on, telling Windows is no longer a question: “Use this browser by default in all cases”. It will be very simple. Instead, you end up with one A long list of file types to select your favorite browser each time. Not only that: after setting up file associations in Google Chrome, you will see that other file associations are on the edge.

So with some types of files like .mht and .mhtml the browser will open from time to time whether you want it or not. You can change these associations to support Chrome or another browser. But when you click on these associations, the popup will only give you the Microsoft Edge. To use an alternative browser, you must manually search for it on the hard disk.

The only reason we understand this change is that the user is wasting time wearing it – and forgetting to change all file associations in favor of a competing browser as much as possible … What do you think about this change? Share your opinion in the comments.
