WhatsApp is constantly innovating to stay competitive. As mentioned by the site WABetaInfoThe Meta-owned instant messaging service is developing a new feature to hide its online status.
For now, the “online” status tells your contacts whether you’re using WhatsApp. Convenient if you want to avoid disturbing anyone when you send a message, this feature can also be problematic. Logging into WhatsApp without your contacts knowing or hiding your activity from people who might bother you is not really possible at the moment.
The innovation discovered by WABetaInfo is in line with WhatsApp’s recent efforts in terms of privacy and will allow everyone to hide this popular “online” status. This feature is under development and not even in beta versions of the app yet. So it is difficult to give an official date. However, WhatsApp seems to be changing its policy.
WhatsApp privately
Currently, only a screenshot of the iOS app shows what this new feature will look like, but WABetaInfo notes that Android will also have the option. At the moment, the only option is to disable login history (so no one knows when you last logged in). To change who can see this information, go to systems of WhatsApp (three dots in the upper right), then inside Account After privacy. From there, you can choose who can access your connection history – between “Everyone”, “Your Contacts” or “Anyone”.
The balance indicator will follow the same settings as this option. Preventing everyone from knowing your online presence will somehow allow you to browse WhatsApp in “Private” mode. A welcome innovation for all internet users who are already facing harassment issues.
