WhatsApp is bringing a new functionality back to Germany. This is indicated by the current trial version of the messenger service. In all likelihood, users will soon be able to re-export WhatsApp chat histories.

Until 2020, users in Germany can easily export WhatsApp chat histories. In January 2020, the Messenger service removed this functionality for German users. The reason: a long-running patent dispute with rival brand BlackBerry.

The controversy has now been resolved: on January 15, US media reported that Facebook and BlackBerry had reached an agreement on its “global patent dispute”. WhatsApp news service is owned by the American company Facebook.

The new WhatsApp trial version for Android suggests that the chat export function returns to German users.

WhatsApp: Export functionality for chat histories will be available again soon

The internal journal WABetaInfo says: “WhatsApp finally lets German users export chat histories. For legal reasons that are not possible for a year. “

In the new version of WhatsApp that will be available soon, German users will again need to find the “Export Chat” option in the menu under “Additional Options”.

This way, you can save up to 40,000 messages externally. Alternatively, you can save messages using backup. A backup can be made both locally and in the cloud.

There are currently no signs of a return function on the WhatsApp website. The page with instructions for operation further states: “Note: This functionality is not supported in Germany.”
