A new Trojan horse is spreading like wildfire among Android users. Known as the Gift Horse, it has killed more than 10 million people a year in more than 70 countries, including France. Hackers have been able to put more than 200 infected apps on Google Play, which makes distribution easier.

Fake applications are mainly application software and entertainment. Once installed, they show alerts more than five times an hour to let the user know that they have won a prize and that they only need to enter their phone number to receive it.
In fact, the malware secretly registers a premium SMS subscription for 30 euros a month using this number. In total, the pirates have already collected several hundred million euros since the start of the campaign in November 2020.
All these fake apps have been removed from this App Store, but are still on alternative sites. It is therefore strongly recommended not to download applications from alternative stores.
