Microsoft has already made Office 2021 available for Windows and macOS, and officially announced the pricing for these packages and subscriptions in October. Microsoft 365 Blog Announced. At the same time, the US team is offering a free trial version of Office 2021 for Windows and macOS. This is a fully functional version and can be used up to 30 days after installation. This article is not only about how to install Office 2021 for Windows, but also how to completely remove and reinstall Office 2021 on Windows. Removing Office 2021 will only remove applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook or PowerPoint, which means that no user-created files, documents or workbooks will be deleted by Office applications. Note that Microsoft does not support click-to-run installation of Office 2021 on the same computer, and you will need to remove the old version from your computer before installing Office 2021. So Office 2021 can be completely removed and reinstalled
Here’s how to completely remove and reinstall Office 2021, as there are always problems uninstalling Office via Control Panel and users still have to hand it over. The steps to uninstall Office 2021 depend on the type of installation. Since Microsoft does not offer the Office 2021 client application as a click-to-run version or MSI sorting system, all that is left is the Microsoft Store application that provides click-to-run and Office. To verify the installation type, the Office application should open: Create a new file or open an existing file and select File> Account. The info button is located on the right hand side here. Find the following information: Click-to-run installations include version number, build number and click-to-run report. I have included an example here. The Microsoft Store application contains the version and build number and the Microsoft Store. If you have a click-to-run or MSI installation, you may need to uninstall Office from the Control Panel or download the Uninstall Support Tool. If you have Microsoft Store Processor installed from Office, you must uninstall Office via Start> Settings in the Windows 10 Start menu.
This is how you can uninstall the Microsoft Store processor from Office in Windows 10
- Select Start> Settings> Applications.
- Under Applications and Features, select the version of Office that you want to uninstall. If you have an Office suite such as Office Home and Student installed or have a subscription such as Microsoft 365, search for the package name. If you have purchased a single Office application such as Word or Visio, search for the application name.
- Select Uninstall. If you are unable to uninstall Microsoft Store through the settings in Windows 10, try the following steps to manually uninstall Office using PowerShell.
You can manually uninstall the Office app using PowerShell
- Right-click on Start and select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
- To do this, enter the following in the Windows PowerShell window: Get-AppxPackage -Named “Microsoft.Office.Desktop” | Remove-AppxPackage
- Then press Enter. This will take a few minutes. When the process is complete, a new line will appear.
- Finally, check that the Office application has been removed: In the Windows PowerShell window, enter the following: Get-AppxPackage -Named “Microsoft.Office.Desktop”
- Then press Enter. If you see a notice with no additional information, it means that you have successfully removed the office. You can close the Windows PowerShell window.
Office 2021 can be removed manually via the Control Panel
Follow the steps below to see if you can uninstall Office using the Windows Control Panel. In Windows 10, right-click the Start button and select Control Panel. To access the Control Panel, you have to press the Windows key and X and select Control Panel. Right-click your office product and click Uninstall. If you purchased Microsoft 365 or Office Home and Student 2021, see the package name. If you bought an app like Word 2021, look for the app. Then right-click on your product and click Uninstall. Problems with Office, Microsoft 365 or Outlook can now be fixed. If Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant is unable to resolve the issue, it may recommend further action and contact Microsoft Support. Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Microsoft 365 does not remove separately installed Office 2021 programs from the Office 2021 package. Additionally, uninstalling does not delete any files, documents or other user data.
Launch Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant now, agree to the Microsoft Service Agreement and select the following in the next window Which app are you having trouble with? Well Install, remove, activate or sign in to Office Click Next. Then select I have Office installed, there is a problem uninstalling it Click Next. Answer the question that this is an infected computer and click Next. The problem will now be solved. Select in the window Uninstall Office Products For the version of Office that you want to uninstall, click Next. Follow the instructions and restart your computer when prompted. After restarting your computer, the uninstall tool will automatically reboot to perform the final step of the uninstall process. Follow the rest of the instructions. To reinstall Microsoft Office on a Windows system, select the version you want to reinstall and follow the appropriate steps: Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019, Office 2016, Office 2013, Office 2010 Or Office 2007.
