Microsoft has released a newer version of Windows 10 Update Assistant that enables attackers to run a program with system privileges with higher privileges, in order to fix local vulnerabilities for privilege enhancement. This will allow the attacker to perform any action on Windows 10.
Increase in benefits and neglect of security functions
Vulnerabilities were diagnosed and reported by external security experts. Vulnerabilities allow the attacker to elevate their privileges and thus grant them administrative rights. It can then hijack and install unauthorized malicious code and disable other security functions. Security update is therefore estimated to be important. Details can be found on the Security Vulnerability Support page CVE-2021-42297 As CVE-2021-43211. According to Microsoft estimates, it is not possible to exploit vulnerabilities. An exploitation of both of them is not yet known.
Automatic update
However, not much information has been released yet. However, all users should install it as soon as the update is available. Windows 10 Update Assistant is only used on x86 / 64 systems, not ARM supported. The easiest way to get a security update is directly through the integrated Windows update function. If it is not installed automatically, it will appear in the list of regular updates.
Windows Update Assistant loads feature updates, such as the one recently launched Windows 10 version 21H2 or November 2021 update Download and install. So it is rarely used, but should not be ignored.
