With its latest SSD, Samsung has taken a beating: the PM1743 is truly capable of achieving unprecedented read and write speeds! Unfortunately, the public has to be patient with their problems …
The new SSD released by Samsung is less likely to appear on the computer, but the technology used shows great promise in reducing transfer times. The manufacturer relies on the PCIe 5.0 protocol, which almost doubles the performance of PCIe 4.0.
SSD for data centers
In fact, the PM1743 is capable of reaching record speeds: 13 Gb / s serial reading and 6.6 Gb / s serialization! To achieve these amazing results, the SSD uses a proprietary controller that complies with the latest version of the PCIe standard. In addition, consumption is reduced by 30% compared to previous generations.
The SSD is available in capacities ranging from 1.92 TB to 15.36 TB. This speed and performance will be assigned to business customers for their servers. The PM1743 comes in both the classic 2.5-inch format and the 3-inch EDSFF version, making it the most widely used design in data centers.
Samsung is not offering any pricing at the moment, but mass production is expected to start in the first quarter of 2022. The average user will have to wait before using that power on their computer, but no doubt PCIe. 5.0 will eventually happen to everyone sooner or later.
