    S.G. LG Plus has the fastest 5G download speeds in Korea: Report

    Seoul, Dec. 7 (Yonhap) – South Korean telecommunications operator LG Plus Corp. reported on Monday that it has the fastest 5G download speeds among South Korean mobile carriers.

    The average 5G download speed of a mobile carrier in Seoul is 476.5 megabytes per second (MPbps), making it the largest mobile carrier in the country. Telecom Co. 436.2 Mbps and telecommunications company KD Corp. 425.8 Mbps. Routometrics,

    From September 15 to October 12, LG Plus 5G had 90.9 percent more access than KD, while SK Telecom had 71.3 percent more access, according to Routmetrics.

    Access to 5G refers to how often a device is connected to 5G.

    South Korea does not currently provide the full 5G that requires support for 4G LTE.

    The market researcher noted that the new figures indicate a bigger improvement than when South Korea was the first country to commercialize 5G a year ago.

    According to Routmetrics, the average 5G download speed of the LG Applice was 426.4 Mbps last year, while SK Telecom’s was 286.9 Mbps, while the KD 163 Mbps.

    KD5G led with 45.6 per cent, LG Uplis with 44.6 per cent and SK Telecom with 42.2 per cent.

    “5G performance in South Korea … has shown tremendous improvement in a relatively short period of time,” the report said.

    At the end of October, there were nearly 10 million 5G users in South Korea, accounting for 14 percent of the country’s total 70.3 million mobile subscriptions.
