If you’ve ever hung out in eShop and are looking for a good title to offer you, you’s already got an eyelid without a doubt in the top seller rankings. You should have seen some headlines there, but you should also have seen some independent copies. But it also happened to find games that had nothing to do with others and that you certainly had never heard of …

In fact, the ranking of games in eShop is based on the best sales / downloads in the last 14 days. Developers and some publishers have found various references that allow their titles to stand out. Top Ads (a technique we already discussed with publishers / developers during Sunday’s show) inevitably brought headlines for the best-selling ad. Another “tip” is to offer one (or more) other titles (s) for free, especially when purchasing one, which inevitably elevates the free title in the rankings.

Kamasutra’s Simon Carles openly declares that the US eShop has made some changes to prevent this kind of “abuse”. By:

    • Bonds with an amount equal to 0.1 cts do not appear in the rankings.
    • The rules of the US Store have changed and the game will not be available for less than $ 1.99.

For now these new rules are not about the European store and there is no official information for the US store. See if we care too … i.e. the end of free games or 0.99 euros …

What do you think? Do you use bestseller rankings for shopping? Or do you see the tests we provide earlier?
