Two weeks after landing on Mars, the six-wheeled American rover embarked on its first tour. “The rover’s six-wheel drive worked properly. Weighing about 1,000 kilograms and the size of a small car, the “diligence” features a three-meter-long robotic arm and 19 cameras, two microphones and several sophisticated instruments. The rover touched down on February 18 on a dry lake on Mars after 203 flying days and 472 million kilometers covered by a dangerous maneuver.
The rover will explore this area with a diameter of about 45 km over the next two years. Science wants to study the climate and geography of Mars and look for traces of the planet’s previous microbial life.
