On March 30, 2021, we will release an update to improve the gaming experience for the Nintendo Switch. In particular, we are going to upgrade the rendering system on the Nintendo Switch to make better use of the console’s graphics card.

Effects in terms of resolution and performance

What does this mean for players in Switzerland? This update results in a significant increase in resolution in portable and TV mode, resulting in sharper image and less fluctuating performance. The update also ensures a consistent update rate of the image. The result? Smooth overall experience.

Resolution in portable mode and TV mode

    • Fortnite for Switch will use a dynamic resolution method to ensure a constant frame refresh rate, but this process will be used sparingly. Therefore, the overall resolution should be significantly higher.

    Expected Resolutions

    Mode Before Now
    Small 1000 × 560 1170 660
    TV 1390 780 1560 880

Note: This represents a 38% increase in the number of pixels in portable mode! To see the graphics difference before and after the update, take a look at the pictures below.

What’s more, the switch cameras can save up to 140MB of storage as a result of this update. So grab your switch, play in portable mode or TV mode and the Victoria Royals will rain!
