Originally called Satellite Offices, Nintendo is now closing them down to expand in general in North America. Places in Redwood City, California, and Toronto, Canada, will be phased out in the future, with staff being relocated to larger headquarters – particularly in Redmond and Vancouver.
The office in Redwood in particular was responsible for sales and marketing and managing the country’s retail business. After the office closed, Nick Chavez, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo of America, also left the video game company and is now with KFC and Yum! On board. The reason for the closure is not yet clear. Nintendo USA has just released the following report, which we have translated for you:
Quote
“Nintendo of America Headquarters Redmond, WA and Vancouver, BC We are moving more staff and work to this headquarters and over time will close smaller branch offices in Toronto, ON and Redwood City, CA. After Nick Chavez left, Nintendo of America Devon Pritchard, Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and Publisher Relations (NOA), will take over the management of sales, marketing and communications, while Ms Pritchard will oversee the strategy and implementation of sales, marketing and communications in the United States and Canada.
Nearly 100 employees in the offices are to be relocated to the larger headquarters so as to retain their jobs, but according to Kodaku they are not happy about the news.
Why do you think Nintendo is closing satellite offices?
