There are annoying situations when you open your smartphone. With these hidden functions, the smartphone starts without entering a code or delaying the face scan.
Most smartphones can now be unlocked using facial recognition or fingerprints. But it does not always work reliably. With Smart Lock, Android offers a practical functionality by which you don’t need both.
This well-hidden feature is easy to use once set up and can save multiple steps in many situations. To do this, Smart Lock uses various sensors to scan the environment. This means that the smartphone is unlocked or, for example, locks itself if someone else uses the mobile phone.
However, this feature is no longer available on all devices. Some manufacturers have now developed their own solutions that work similarly.
How does Smart Lock work?
To enable Smart Lock on Android smartphone, do the following:
- Go to Settings.
- In the Device Security submenu, select the Secure Lock Settings option.
- Here you can find the Smart Lock feature. To authenticate functionality on your device, enter your PIN or your security mode
- You should now be in the Smart Lock function menu
The individual steps may vary depending on the smartphone manufacturer and the Android version. Alternatively, you can find the feature using the search function.
Smart Lock offers these options
In the Smart Lock menu, you can choose from a variety of options used to unlock the device.
- Reliable devices: With this option you can select devices that connect frequently to your smartphone as “trusted”, for example. This could be the Bluetooth headphones or Bluetooth system in your car. If the smartphone is near one of these devices, it will open automatically.
- Reliable locations: This option allows you to use Google Maps to set locations where the device will open automatically. However, GPS must be enabled for this.
- Wear recognition: With this option, Smart Lock authenticates on certain operating systems whether you are carrying a mobile phone with you and will not be unlocked later. However, this option cannot be distinguished between you and others.
Those who value convenience when opening will find a practical solution in smart boot. However, you should be aware that Google collects additional data about you through various options.
