Half-life 2: Optimizes the first person shooter valve for the steam deck

Built: valve

In preparation for the steam deck, the valve modifies Half-Life 2 so that the shooter can also play Evergreen. A new beta branch reveals many changes coming to the game.

Valve Guard Tyler McVicker has already seen the upcoming version and all in one YouTube video Despite the lack of link notes, significant findings have been collected. Half-Life 2 may not run perfectly with the beta update, but it does show a significant number of new features. According to McVeigh, this includes a number of bug fixes that the fan base has long wanted, especially upgrades for upcoming handhelds.

Among the options, there is the option to scale the interface, thus making it suitable for higher pixel densities. At the same time, resolutions with additional aspect ratios, including 21: 9 and additional FOV settings, are supported. This means solutions may be provided in the future. Differently, McVicker explains, the resolution and the ratio of HUD can be set separately.

There is also new support for the Vulcan API, which, unlike Microsoft’s DirectX, can be used on its own under Linux and speeds up games there. Since Portal 2 was launched earlier this year with Vulcan support, it can be assumed that Valve will update all its latest games based on the source engine for Linux and SteamTech.

Good reasons for the update

After starting to check the games on the valve steam for the compatibility of the steam deck, to see its result, such optimization seems almost mandatory. On the one hand, it offers exemplary action to other developers, evidence of publisher seriousness to potential buyers and on the other hand descriptive products in the form of handheld with a large range. Since SteamTech’s hardware is only limited performance, the valves are already old, but basically timeless games in this case are suitable for mobile playback.
