Fortinet and Cato Networks have added services to their respective cloud security platforms to enhance the security of traffic over broadband networks (SD-WANs) as defined by the software.

Fortinet has updated its FortiOS operating system to provide real-time network security services based on Fortinet Security Fabric. Gado adds risk-based application access control to its SecureEdge Access Services (SASE) portfolio.

Version 7.2 of FortiOS brings the online sandbox, a Sandbox, And a secure cloud access gateway (CASB). Additionally, the Advanced Host Security Service provides security policy enforcement for automated discovery, network segmentation, and connected objects (IoT).

Coming from network security, Fortinet naturally switched to SD-WAN over time. Cado Networks, which was originally an expert in this segment, has been developing security services in recent months and launched CASB at the end of January.

Most recently, Gado added a risk-based application access control called Cato Single Pass Cloud Engine (SPACE) to its SASE portfolio. SPACE uses real-time device identification and behavior to control access to applications and their functions within limited policies.

For example, a company can configure a device to upload on a platform but not download – this is a granularity level beyond traditional network access control. Permitting at the granular level is crucial when workers connect unsafe home appliances to corporate networks.

According to IDC analyst Chris Rodriguez, the two announcements follow the trend of integrating network connectivity and security in distributed SD-WAN environments. It makes no sense to use multiple point security products when dealing with multiple SD-WANs: “Vendors [de SD-WAN et de sécurité] Try to compete in their respective markets somehow. But at the same time, they do it because they feel these things are becoming more and more intertwined.

The latest security services offered by Fortinet and Cato are available to existing customers at no extra charge.
