False applications attached to the vaccine passport – call for awareness – message

Press release issued by the Ministry of Health and Social Services at 9:20 pm

The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) wants to issue a call for awareness in the wake of reports of invalid applications for Quebec vaccine passports.

According to reports, people have succeeded in copying the footage created for the VaxiCode application and getting approval to download these fake applications on Google Play. As soon as MSSSS was informed about this situation, action was taken to remove the fake applications through Google as soon as possible.

It is important to note that this situation is not associated with an integrity or security issue with the official VaxiCode and VaxiCode Verif applications. These are secure and ensure the security of personal information.

Copying this type of popular application is a growing problem. Therefore, the citizen should ensure awareness to ensure that they download the proper official application. The following criteria are used to confirm this:

For the citizen, the name of the application must be exactly “VaxiCode”, without any other word before or after it;

For the merchant, the name of the application must be exactly “VaxiCode Verif”, with no other words before and after the pronunciation; VaxiCode and VaxiCode Verif ask for authentication to access the device or camera of files / images;

VaxiCode does not contain any advertising;

Finally, fake applications will not allow you to download your QR code.

Highlights:

Keep in mind that official applications issued by the Quebec government make it possible to regulate the use of the QR code in accordance with the rules for the protection of personal information.
In addition, if merchants use other fake applications, they may face penalties if they use or keep personal information about their customers.
