After the high level in 2019 and the mid-2020 level, the 5G entry level is coming to smartphones. During the IFA in September, Qualcomm announced that the first processor in its 4 series (the most affordable range) would integrate the 5G modem in early 2021. Founder Snapdragon 480 5G has fulfilled its promise by releasing a SoC. Engraved at 8 nm to open 5G for the general public. Early builders can use this in the next few days.

    Interesting innovations

The Snapdragon 480 5G includes a cryo 640 octa core CPU (introduced with the Snapdragon 675 of 2018) and an Adreno 619 GPU (found on gaming chips such as the Snapdragon 750G). In other words, its performance should be very satisfactory, but we need to check it.

Compatible with WiFi 6, Qualcomm’s new SoC supports up to 120 Hz upgrade to Full HD + and of course, up to 2.5 Gbits / s on 5G can be downloaded thanks to its X51 modem.

Another great first for entry-level Qualcomm chip, Snapdragon 480 equipped smartphones can be quickly recharged using the Quick Charge 4+ certified charger. So entry level smartphones should not take more than three hours to recharge with this chip, which is one of their biggest drawbacks.

For now, no manufacturer has announced a Snapdragon 480 5G-enabled smartphone. The chip soon wants to equip Xiaomi, Realme or Motorola mobiles to help 5G to invade entry level.
