End of support: Edge Legacy no longer receives any updates

The “old” Edge browser is retiring: Microsoft will rely on Edge Chromium in the future.

BAlready in August 2020, Microsoft announced that it would end support for its outdated browser Edge (the traditional version, i.e. without the Chromium engine) on March 9, 2021. Today the browser has reached its “end of life” and will not receive security updates! In principle, the program can be used for now, but it is better to switch to an alternative that regularly receives regular updates. Otherwise, unconnected vulnerabilities could easily fall prey to hackers and malware.

The April update removes the old margin from Windows

Anyone who has not yet switched to the new Edge Chromium will soon face a false record somehow. Microsoft’s next phase will continue on April 13, 2021: With the overall Windows 10 update, Redmond (Washington State) will remove the old Edge operating system and install a new Chrome – based Edge. This applies to the following versions of Windows 10:
Versions that already use the new Edge (e.g. version 20H2) do not receive the new Edge installation; The update only removes the remnants of the old browser there. The most important questions about the update are answered Microsoft on its blog. Anyone, for whatever reason, is still relying on the old edge, should look around for an alternative soon.
