Due to the very high number of successes, the download of the emergency call processor “Nora” across the country has been suspended until further notice. As the emergency numbers 110 and 112 failed on Wednesday, the processor’s urgency increased more than tenfold, the Interior Ministry of North Rhine-Westphalia said on Thursday. Servers have reached the load limit. The application is functional and usable for all already registered users.
For the main target group of “Nora”, the Ministry of the Interior, for those who are deaf and hard of hearing, has created an alternative way to download and register the application. People with speech and hearing impairments can register at “www.nora-notruf.de/hilfe” and request access to the application.
“Nora”: Great help for the deaf in emergencies
Emergency call applications were launched on Tuesday in all federal states except Berlin. Until now, deaf people had to sign translators, friends or faxes in times of emergency.
After downloading the app, users will need to register once. Personal information about previous illnesses can already be entered into a profile. If an emergency call is selected, the processor automatically detects the location of the cell phone and sends it to the control center with a single click.
The application then guides the user through several questions to help them assess the risk situation. If all questions are answered, an emergency call will be made. The North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Ministry was in charge of the nationwide project.
