Manuscript is a free, open source writing software that allows you to organize your ideas to create the work of your life or to create the paper you need to write quickly. Very complete and feature-packed, Manuscript is some attention-grabbing software.
Keep in mind that Manuscript is completely free, and since it is open source, any developer who wishes to participate in the project will be welcome. If you are not a developer but would like to help improve Manuscript, feel free to donate to its developer via its website.
What is the manuscript used for?
Manuscript is an advanced text editor that allows you to completely edit your writing work. It offers a variety of writing methods: simple mode for essays or other works of the working document type, and fictional mode, for creators of fictional works (especially novels).
In fiction mode, you can also specify the type of document: short story, short story, trilogy, etc. For each, you can change the number of episodes, scenes, and words if needed. Thus, the interface changes automatically.
The software allows you to create your characters, a set of general information, metadata for your chapters (including a summary of what’s going on there), and the possibility of indicating where you are in the book by chapter positions and scenes.
What are the original features of Manuscript?
Manuscript has two tools that are very interesting to writers: distraction mode and helper.
Distraction mode is a special mode dedicated to helping you create additional content. First, you can choose a visual theme of Manuscript (and create your own) and turn it into a quiet and peaceful interface for you (everyone is different). Second, you have the option to set a block that will prevent you from leaving the manuscript until you reach your goal (time or number of words). Note that this mode is fullscreen mode.
The news creation guide uses the snowflake method (created by author Randy Ingermanson) to help you get the job done. This is a method that allows you to start small and grow your story gradually. The first step is to put in your ideas: what the novel is about, who the characters are, their universe, and so on.
In fact, thanks to the wizard, you can constantly create characters and connect your universe while writing. You can see which characters appear in which chapters, such as accessing your story tree.
Manuscript is compatible with which systems?
Manuskript is compatible with Windows and Linux (you can download the installer for Debian or Fedora based distributions or as a Flatpack package). MacOS has an older version, but Manuscript does not install correctly on MacOS Catalina. Development for Apple’s system has been put on hold while the developer finds a solution. The help of Mac developers is also welcome.
