The chemical company 3M, which has been on fire for months due to PFOS pollution, is now illegally dumping another toxin into the shelter. This is clear from an internal note issued by the Flemish Department of Welfare and Health, which can be viewed on VTM News and Head Lotte News.

It is associated with FBSA, a substance that builds up in the lungs. On Thursday evening 3M announced that it was dumping its sewage in nature, but it was not allowed.

Since 2002, 3M has stopped producing PFOS, which has been shown to accumulate in the human body and has been described as “extremely dangerous”. Since then, 3M has continued to produce other hazardous products. Previously, I got permission to discharge sewage into the shelter.

Despite dumping illegal sewage into the shed, 3M never asked the FBSA for permission. Since 3M never mentioned downloading it, it was not even measured by the Flemish government. So for many years we were able to flush out the toxic waste water without sagging.

Antwerp County Vice President Luke Lemmons confirmed that 3M was not allowed to exit, according to Head Lodestay News. “You can only download what is allowed in the 3M offloading standard. FBSA is not currently included in the offloading standard. 3M does not require it.”

In 2019, 3M had to admit that it had illegally dumped FBSA into the Tennessee River at the Decatur production site in the United States. So it was forced to stop production of 3M and pay $ 35 million to local authorities.

The agency spokesman told Belka that the decision to dispose of the substance illegally at 3M did not come from an internal reference to care and health. “Healthcare & Health has requested a list of PFAS compounds that 3M to 3M manufactures or uses in its manufacturing processes. This list (from 3M) is included in a presentation made during Zwijndrecht City Council.
