CANAVESE – Duty of snow chains or tires on provincial roads

Kanaves – All vehicles are forced to travel with chains or snow tires along the length of the road in winter, at risk of frost and severe snow. This responsibility is derived from an order issued by the Metropolitan City of Turin. In most cases the liability starts on November 15th, but on some roads from November 1st. In addition, the end sections of some high mountain roads will be closed to traffic for safety reasons during the winter.

Most roads that cross our territory have a duty to keep winter tires or chains. This regulation will be in effect until April 15, and will continue until April 30, with the exception of arteries with higher elevations.

The City of Turin Ordinance contains a list of non-slip vehicles (chains or equivalent devices) suitable for driving on snow or ice, or canvass roads affected by the obligation to be fitted with tires. This rule specifies the types of non-slip vehicles and tires and prohibits the circulation of two-wheeled mopeds and motorcycles during snow or ice.
