The rescue ship “Ocean Viking” again took more than a hundred people on a voyage off the coast of Libya. A total of 106 people were rescued from a dinghy 60 kilometers off the Libyan coast on Saturday, the organization SOS Méditerranée said. There were men, women and children in the completely crowded boat.

The ship “Ocean Viking” rescued about 420 boat migrants from the sea and brought them to the Italian Mediterranean island of Sicily. Libya, a civil war country, is a hub for migrants from many countries on their way to Europe. Traveling in small boats across the Mediterranean is considered dangerous.
Private rescue operations are politically controversial. Usually the rescued will be brought to Italy first. Submarines are sometimes allowed to dock at Malta. Libya’s Coast Guard is repatriating several boat migrants to North Africa. (AFP)
