On Wednesday, AVM followed rumors circulating on blogs a few weeks ago: The widespread Fritzbox 7590 was the first router to receive Lab firmware 7.39, which provides a preview of the next major version of the FritzOS router operating system 7.50.

In addition to the many detailed improvements – the information file should be read The zip archive is available here – and sophisticatedly configured websites, beta firmware WireGuard VPN brings new technology to access your own network from the Internet.

AVM ranks WireGuard connection types as known IPsec types.

    Simple configuration

Configuration is as simple as usual for AVM: the new technology deploys seamlessly across other VPN connections. After selecting the WireGuard connection type laptop / PC, give the connection a name and click “Create connection configuration”. Copy the text for the WireGuard configuration file from the box that appears later and install it on the client. The prerequisite is that the Fritzbox is named Myfritz.net or Dyndns. With the smartphone connection, the freitbox shows the QR code after clicking, which you can scan with the cell phone camera.

ct In the lab’s first measurements, the wirecard on the Fritzbox 7590 accelerated connections in the road warrior environment – with AVM in the words of the classic IPsec VPN “remote access per user” – approximately 70 to approximately 150 Mbit / s (average downline and overhead). This gives a similar boost to other Fritz boxes that will receive the next FritzOS version. These may be all that AVM currently displays on the models currently sold on its product page.
